'Alstroemeria Ben' Cross
It’s time for ‘British Flowers Rock’! And we welcome Ben Cross, an entrepreneur and award winning 4th generation grower from Crosslands garden nursery in Walberton. Ben is otherwise know as ‘Alstromeria Ben’! Next to being a fulltime grower, producing cut flowers all year-round, Ben is an avid campaigner for British Flowers and sustainable growing practices. He also carries out apprenticeship schemes with local horticultural colleges where he gives his ‘British Flowers Rock’ talks.
Spriggs Florist
Spriggs Florist, in the heart of Petworth, is a family run business providing flowers for all occasions as well as displays for local retailers. Matthew Spriggs will be inspiring us on all things spring!
Lucie Haworth
Just in time for Christmas we have the hugely talented Lucie Haworth of Hand Made Sussex with us. She will present the ‘Unusual Christmas’ - which may well be ‘wreath free’!!!
Lucie lives in Graffham, and is a forager who collects, grows and makes dried and seasonal arrangements.
We are also delighted to showcase products from Alchemy Home. They will have a display of two wonderful Christmas Day dining table settings: One classic and one eclectic.
Together with seasonal mulled wine and mince pies, the extremely talented Maria Kovlicova from lovemycakes_sussex will be providing delicious teatime treats. All money raised from refreshment donations and raffle ticket sales will be donated to the Midhurst Christmas Food Bank.
Finally we will also have a very special guest at the end of the meeting (no, not Father Christmas!) so make sure you put enough money in the parking meter as you will not wish to miss this!!
Angel Like Flowers
Autumn and winter weddings can be the most beautiful. We are delighted to welcome the very talented bespoke Petworth Wedding Florist, Angelina of ‘Angel like Flowers’. Angelina works exclusively with private clients and brings a sense of luxury and an ‘Angel-like touch’ to all of her creations.
In addition, this meeting will showcase some of the exquisite bridal designs by Kasia Austin, based in her hideaway studio in rural Selham. She is a member of our Society. Kasia designs and makes bespoke wedding dresses and accessories, with a unique touch that delights and allows us to dream.
Char Johnston
We are so excited to welcome Char Johnston to the first of our Autumn/winter meetings.
Based in West Sussex, Char grows her own flowers, she gardens and is a very talented florist and flower farmer, with a difference. She works with the seasons and holds sustainability at the heart of everything.
Prepare to be inspired with a capital ‘I’ !!!
Summer Workshop
Our final meeting, for the Spring/Summer, draws on our members to show case what inspires them on an outdoor Summer table - their arrangements, interpretations and ideas will form a superb and colourful ‘exhibition style’ afternoon.
Plus, we are thrilled to welcome the creative, dynamic duo, Mariana and Hannah, who are the Tour de Force that is Lamb & Newt.
They will curate and style a tablescape, sharing their tips on how to lay the perfect outdoor dining table.
Flower Arranging by Diggy Rodber
Due to the unforeseen circumstances, the demonstration by Jo Craig of The Midhurst Flower Farm will now be by Diggy Rodber, renowned international florist who lives locally.
Garden visit to King Edward VII Estate
Garden tour and talk by the Head Gardener including the Gertrude Jekyll gardner. Followed by Afternoon Tea in the beautifully restored dining room of the former hospital
Ben Pope - head gardener teacher & author
Ben Pope, who recently appeared on Gardener’s World, gave a fascinating slide show about gardening and growing flowers, followed by a demonstration of easy to do arrangements and a quick mention of his new book. Cakes were donated by Madeleines and the raffle included two free copies of Ben’s new book.
Inaugural Meeting with Hattie & Flo
The first meeting of the newly formed Midhurst Buds & Blooms with a wonderful demonstration of free flowing eco-floristry by local florists Hattie & Flo. Hand tied bouquet tutorial using everyday seasonal flowers. Followed by tea (cakes donated by Comestibles) and a raffle to win one of the flower arrangements.
